Metatrader 5 comes with integrated historical data for backtests.

 

In Metatrader 4 it was necessary to import historical data from other sources, for example you could use the data from histdata.com.

 

But importing historical data was always something I didn’t like very much.

 

First it is effort to find, download, unpack and import the data.

 

And it is also easy to make errors as Metatrader 4 did not offer any way to avoid that you import the data for one currency pair into another one.

 

It is even possible to mess up the import when you pick the wrong time frame in the history center.

 

So when it comes to backtesting I think that Metatrader 5 can save a lot of time and effort.

 

Metaquotes stopped the development of Metatrader 4 a while ago, but it was the standard for over a decade.

 

So I think that Metatrader 5 will be around for the next few years and it comes with everything included.

 

And it also runs on Linux, I use virtual machines and PlayonLinux to run it on Ubuntu.
